Associate


Mt. Auburn Associates, a small women-owned firm in Somerville, MA, has been working for 30 years to make a difference in communities across the country through innovative approaches to achieving social impact. The firm is seeking a full-time Associate to join our team and support the firm's growing portfolio of work on national philanthropic initiatives that are focused on addressing the growing inequality in the nation.

Potential projects include an evaluation of a 50-city initiative at the intersection of health and community development; an evaluation of collective impact efforts in small, older industrial cities; strategic planning work on a health transformation initiative in 7 regions across the U.S.; and a developmental evaluation of a national community development finance effort. Working for a small organization, you will have the opportunity to participate in all aspects of the firm's work.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Exceptionally strong analytic skills
  • Experience working with quantitative data and be able to present data to tell a story
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Creativity and expertise in data visualization and an interest in infographics
  • Interest and experience with system thinking
  • Preference for working collaboratively in a team environment
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely
  • Ability to work under pressure and time constraints to handle changing priorities to ensure timely and accurate completion of assignments
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with clients and community stakeholders
  • Ability to speak and write effectively to communicate in a professional and effective manner with internal and external stakeholders

Education and Prior Work Experience:

Qualified candidates will have:

  • Master's in public policy, evaluation, planning, public health, or business administration OR bachelor's in related field AND 5 years' experience.
  • Experience in evaluation, research projects, and/or strategic planning.

Job Description:

We are seeking a full-time Research Analyst to provide project support to senior staff on national and local initiatives across the U.S. Potential projects include those related to community development, workforce development, small business and economic development, community development finance, creative industries, healthcare, and food access. Working for a small organization, you will have the opportunity to participate in all aspects of the firm's work.


Skills:

The ideal candidate will have the ability to:

  • Conduct and synthesize data accurately and thoroughly
  • Perform rigorous qualitative and quantitative analyses
  • Prepare literature reviews
  • Collect, review, and synthesize program documentation
  • Assist in the development of surveys and interview protocols
  • Work as part of a team
  • Take accurate and concise notes
  • Communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely both verbally an in writing
  • Produce accurate work to meet deadlines
  • Show creativity and initiative in developing new ways to visualize information and data

Education and Prior Work Experience:

Qualified candidates will have:

  • BA/BS plus some work experience in a related field.
  • Experience with data management, cleaning and restructuring of data; and familiarity with data reporting techniques
  • Ability to work under pressure and time constraints to handle changing/simultaneous priorities to ensure timely and accurate completion of assignments/projects
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office
